Impulse #4 Corporate Content Creation

Last November I attended a trade fair (SPS Nürnberg) as part of my work, where I was responsible for creating content on-site. Unlike long-term design projects, this context demanded immediate decisions. There was no time for extended iteration & decisions had to happen right away.

And it definitely had its challenges. Lighting conditions shift constantly, people move unpredictably, and moments disappear within seconds. I had to think simultaneously about framing, storytelling, brand consistency, and platform-specific requirements. Trade fairs mostly present staged environments, yet social media audiences often expect spontaneous, “behind-the-scenes” impressions, to kind of keep the content authentic (or as much as possible).

This made me question how design quality is defined (or decided on) in these high pressure environments. Does speed reduce conceptual depth, or does it simply require a different type of competence? But also, how does design operate under time pressure? This then also became an impulse to think about temporality in design. How does communication function when it is short-lived? Insta stories disappear after 24 hours, posts are quickly replaced by new content. The lifespan of design (here in terms of the content on social networks) becomes extremely short. At the same time, digital traces remain archived.
